The beginnings of the original American Karate Style:
East Meets Southwest, Part I, is the story of the beginnings of Karate Shin-Toshi, which combined key elements of many different Asian martial arts to form the original American Karate Style. From its genesis in the basement of a rough and tumble juvenile hall to the creation of “The Southwest’s Most Exclusive Martial Arts Complex,” you’ll learn how founder Mickey Fisher and his students over the years collaborated in the creation of a style that has always lived up to the meaning of its name: “New, Independent Way.” Part I of the Shin-Toshi story is an educational and motivational read for any student of the martial arts, but particularly those who have been involved with Shin-Toshi during any time in its development.
“And I told Bob (Jones) ‘From now on we’re not teaching Tae Kwon Do any more. We’re teaching Shin-Toshi.’”
